Isaiah's The World Today Just Nuts "Here's Nouri" went up last night. I love it.
Today on The Diane Rehm Show (NPR), the first hour guests were Mark Calabria, Travis Plunkett, Bruce Fein and Laurence Tribe. The second hour guest was Thomas Frank. I loathe him. I read Out Of The Vinyl Deeps: Ellen Willis On Rock Music, (which was number four on Martha and Shirley's "2011 in books (Martha & Shirley)") and that collection of Ellen Willis' writing had me go online in search of any essays she wrote later on (the book focuses on Willis' rock writing from the 60s and 70s and not her political writing later on). One of the best pieces I found was from 2006 (the year she died) and is entitled -- PDF format warning -- "Escape from Freedom: What's The Matter With Tom Frank (And The Lefties Who Love Him?)"
On Fresh Air today, I rolled my eyes at a book author on for the full hour to discuss Rin Tin Tin (a dog in movies and later TV) as she insisted upon being puzzled that Rin Tin Tin got obits in newspapers and hour of radio for dying in 1932 (that was the first Rin Tin Tin, there would be others). If it's so strange, how about using a full hour on the topic today? Or writing a book on the topic?
She really was a lame guest.
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
