I am better with Lily and Neal. (If you're late to this topic, they were engaged from the first episode of the show and planning their wedding. They broke up and I thought, 'They'll get back together in time for the season finale.' Then it turned out Neal was attracted to men as well. So there probably is no getting back together this season.)
They are friends with the couple Whitney and Alex. And Neal and Alex are also in business together. Whitney is a photographer but due to the bad economy she went to work for her friend Roxanne. (Also Lily's friend. And after Lily and Neal broke up, Lily moved in with Roxanne.)
The other main character on the show is Mark. He is a police officer. Vain and dates very young women. He's more than a bit of pig. He's Alex's best friend. And he's finally realized he's in love with Roxanne.
He went to Neal for help. Neal told him he should talk to Lily.
That leads up to my favorite scene in the show last night.
Neal: Hey, Lil, Mark and I have something to talk to you about.
Lily: Oh. Oh. I know you two are hooking up.
Mark: No, we're not!
Lily: Oh, never mind. What's up?
So they tell her and she can't believe it. Mark's explaining that he can't stop thinking about her and he sees Roxanne everywhere he looks.
Lily: Okay, Mark, nut up! Roxanne has been through too much and the last thing she needs is you messing with her head. So get over it.
Mark: Okay, no, you're right. I'll shake it off. I'm Irish Catholic. I've repressed feelings all my life.
Lily: Good. Because after our break up and Neal flying half a rainbow flag, our group can't take any more stress. No more big life events, no more bombs are allowed to be dropped.
And that's when Whitney and Alex arrive to announce that they've decided to get married.
It was good to see Lily being Lily. She's bouncing back and I'm glad. I still wish she and Neal were getting married but I'm not as sad about it as I was. (I was so sad last week that it really ruined the episode for me. In part because all her "Lily"ness was being used to make Neal feel better and I was thinking she needed to focus on herself. And fearing she was denying the break up by making 'fixing' Neal her new project.)
('Fixing' means making him more comfortable with who he is. Not trying to 'turn him' straight. Lily immediately and completely accepted it when Neal told her he had feelings for this guy and was seeing him.)
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
