Hope you loved Isaiah's comics this week. My favorite was "The Ambassador to Swingtown"
I knew about this story. The other one went up before I'd even heard about it on NPR. It's "The Trusted Driver of Commerce."
And it is good. I just didn't get it as well because I was waking up to it and it was a news story I hadn't heard of.
Today on Talk of the Nation (NPR), the guests were Andrew Tabler, Aaron David Miller, Ross Douthat, Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot and Stephen Balkam.
Don Rickles is in a bit of press trouble over a joke he told. First, I don't believe Don Rickles is a racist. Second, he does insult humor. Third, he's 86-years-old. For all of those reasons, I say give him a break.
But I'll also note the joke, though not considered racist, is old and tired. I don't think it's racist because he's told it about Sammy Davis Jr. (whom he clearly loved). And when he did, you sort of recoiled and that's part of the joke. The recoil is still there today but you don't then laugh.
I think the joke has had its day.
I also don't think he's racist. And I think at 86, people need to cut him a little slack.
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
